Nebraska Wesleyan Runners Hubbard, Ashley Lead
Association of Division III Independents
2005 All-Independent Cross Country Teams

 

KANSAS CITY, MO.--- Led by Brittany Hubbard, Levi Ashley and coach Ted Bulling, Nebraska Wesleyan University swept nearly all the major awards as the All-Independent Cross Country teams were announced today by the Association of Division III Independents. 

Hubbard, a sophomore from Gering, NE, was named the female runner of the year after she won the GPAC (NAIA) Conference meet, finished eighth at the NCAA Division III Central Region meet and 60th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships November 19 in Delaware, OH.     

Ashley, a senior from Alma, NE, who finished seventh at the NCAA championships, was voted the male runner of the year.  Ashley led the Prairie Wolves to a ninth consecutive appearance and a fourth-place team finish at the NCAA championships.  He also led Nebraska Wesleyan to a fourth straight Central Region championship with a first-place finish.  Ashley is only the third runner in Nebraska Wesleyan history to earn three all-America awards in cross country.

Nebraska Wesleyan landed three runners on the men’s first team – Ashley, Craig Dye and Chris Dunker – and two runners – Hubbard and Mercy Dinwiddie – on the women’s first team.  Freshman runner Bridget Baldwin was named the rookie runner of the year and was selected to the second team.  Coach Ted Bulling was named both the men’s coach of the year and the women’s coach of the year.

Colorado College landed two runners – Julian Boggs and Dan Castaneda – to the men’s first team, and also landed three runners – Jeanine Stewart, Meaghan Lynch and Angie Kremer – to the women’s first team. 

Newbury College freshman Herrel Siller was named the men’s rookie runner of the year.

The All-Independent Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams were selected by the men’s and women’s cross country coaches from the Association of Division III Independents member schools.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 19 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in seven sports in 2005-06.  The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.  The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.  In addition, it will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of seven other sports this year.
