Names 2007 All-Independent Men’s Basketball Teams

 

KANSAS CITY, MO.--- Josh Flynn-Brown, who became Chapman University’s all-time single-season scoring leader, headlines the All-Independent Men’s Basketball team announced today by the Association of Division III Independents.  

Flynn-Brown, a senior guard from Redondo Beach, CA, averaged 20.5 points per game and set the single-season scoring record with 533 points.  In addition to leading the team in scoring, Flynn-Brown also led the team in three-point field goals and three-point field goal percentage. 

Joining Flynn-Brown on the first team are Nick Harrington, Southern Vermont College; Tyreek Byard, Lincoln University (Pennsylvania); Archie Mitchell, Newbury College; (tie) DeMonte Bynum, Clarke College; and Elbie Murphy, Saint Joseph’s College (Maine).

Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) head coach Rob Sanicola was selected as the coach of the year.  The Monks finished the season with a 22-8 record, including an 89-80 victory over top-seeded Lincoln University (Pennsylvania) in the title game of the AD3I Northeast Men’s Basketball Championship.   

Mitchell College freshman guard Eric Murray, who averaged 15.7 points per game, was named the rookie of the year. He also was named to the third team All-Independent Team.

The All-Independent Men’s Basketball teams were selected by the men’s basketball coaches from member schools of the Association of Division III Independents.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 25 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2006-07.  The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.  The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.  In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of 10 other sports this year.
